KVK Reasi promotes Egg Laying Poultry Varieties among the Rural Youths

Jammu, Mar 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting egg laying poultry varieties among the rural youths of the district so as to increase their farm income and employment.
According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal, egg laying poultry varieties can play the significant role in generating the additional income and employment among the rural youths of the district. He said that Reasi district of J&K has an immense potential in poultry farming and rural youths of the district can adopt scientific poultry farming as an enterprise. He stressed on the commercial level poultry farming so as to open some new avenues of livelihood among the rural youths of hilly areas. He said that KVK has laid Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on improved breeds of poultry in the district to showcase the technologies to the rural youths under ARYA project.
KVK, Reasi has started the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project in the district through which the KVK is promoting and educating the rural youths on scientific poultry farming by which they can be made self-sustainable.
He narrated that objective of ARYA project is to develop agri-entrepreneurship among the rural youths and scientific poultry farming can be adopted as an enterprise by the rural areas.
He said that poultry eggs and meat are having great demand in the market and rural youths can fetch more prices by selling them.
He said that the rural youths are rearing the indigenous breeds of poultry which lay only 60-80 eggs per year and meat production is also less.
He informed that improved varieties of poultry can lay about 160-200 eggs per year and also can produce more meat. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi is guiding and encouraging the rural youths of Reasi distt. for the scientific poultry farming as it can open some new employment opportunities among the rural youths. It can also help to prevent the rural migration. Moreover the poultry farming can also help to improve the health status of the rural youths. By observing the successful results of successful poultry farmers, many rural youths are showing keen interest towards commercial poultry farming.
