Shopian residents urge LG to provide them houses under PMAY
3/27/2023 11:20:03 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 27: Residents of Herpora Shopian staged a protest at Press Enclave here on Monday against the failure of the administration to provide them with houses under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY), housing for all scheme.
Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh, Sarpanch of Herpora, while talking to Early Times said, "We have assembled here to draw the attention of the authorities towards the pathetic plight of the poor people who deserve to be accommodated under PMAY scheme."
He said, "The government is doing a good job but the benefits should reach the common people. Our humble appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is to intervene and direct the concerned authorities to accommodate the beneficiaries. They are poor people and need assistance."
Sheikh said, "We are giving a 15-day ultimatum to the administration to settle the cases of the poor people. If they fail to do so we will be left with no other option other than hitting the streets."
The Sarpanch said, "More than 79000 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY and this scheme is all set to end in 2024. If the cases of the genuine beneficiaries are not sanctioned it would be a great injustice to them."
He said, "Last year we submitted 100 cases and geo-tagging has already been done. We want our grievance to reach the LG administration. Today 20 people are accompanying me. If the administration keeps on ignoring us, next time 100 people will come along with me."
Another protester Gulzar Lone said, "We don't have a house. We have been visiting different offices for the past 4 to 5 years but till date our cases haven't been processed."
A widow Safia Bano said, "We need a house but we are just getting false assurances and nothing more."
