| Brig Kotwal seeks due share to ex-servicemen | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 09- Expressing serious concern over the raw deal given to the ex-servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP Ex-serviceman cell State Convenor Brigadier (Retd) Karan Singh Kotwal hoped that the new coalition government led by National Conference would give due share to the ex-servicemen in the society. Addressing media persons here today Kotwal said that the main issues which require immediate attention of the government include exemption of VAT on all CSD items, payment of wages to Village Defence Committees equivalent to SPO's, reservation of 20 per cent vacancies in PSUs for servicemen , recruitment of ex-servicemen as SPOs, inclusion of Army Officer of the rank of Brigadier and above as member in Public Service Commission and SSRB, creation of ex-servicemen corporation in the state on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra, employment of ex-servicemen in banks operating in rural areas, setting up Sainik colonies at Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar and Leh, construction of Sainik Bhawans at Jammu and Srinagar and establishment of special cell in Chief Minister’s office to look into the problems of the ex-servicemen. Brig Kotwal said that the achievements of the Armed Forces in varying roles since independence are a matter of pride for all of us in the country. He said that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state where the Armed forces have fought all wars the country was forced upon and given the maximum sacrifices for the state. It has helped the State Administration to counter insurgency, internal security, natural calamities and developments since independence. Yet in spite of enormous contribution, the armed forces in our state have not been given their due share. Brigadier Kotwal said that the previous coalition government, in which Congress was a partner, paid only lip service to the Ex-servicemen Welfare. He said BJP is the only party which had included the welfare aspect of ex-servicemen in its manifesto and assured all Ex-servicemen that if voted to power their problems would be resolved and be given due share in the society.: Brig Kotwal appealed to the new government to address the demands of the brave Ex-servicemen at the earliest and relieve them of the hardships they have suffered so far.
