| Scheme to upgrade forensic science labs, CID on anvil | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 09- The Jammu and Government has sought financial and technical assistance from the Centre for upgrading forensic science laboratories in the state. Official source said that the existing laboratories lack sophisticated equipments and "we do not have adequate number of trained people to run these laboratories." The sources said that the Government plans to send people for training in the country's premier forensic science laboratories on rotational basis so that "we have sufficient number of trained people to run these laboratories." Another scheme on the anvil is to strengthen the state intelligence grid in Jammu and Kashmir. One scheme being considered was to de link the CID wing from the police so that those working in the state intelligence wing could get better emoluments. The sources said this was being done to attract talented people to the Department. So far those who have talent prefer to work either in the police stations or in the Traffic Department. The Centre has agreed to assist the state Government in providing commando training to a section of the policemen. It has decided to set up 20 commando training centers in the country of which one centre was being set up in Jammu. The work on the commando training centre at Awantipora in Kashmir was under progress. It has also been decided to have two commando companies attached with each IRP battalion. This step was being taken to equip the police for fighting terrorists without seeking commando help from either the Army or the Centre
