| Santoor Maestro enthralls audience | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 10 On the second day of the 3rd Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’, the only regular Classical, Sufi and Folk Music Festival held in J&K State, Violin Maestro Pandit Radhe Shyam Tewari presented Raag Nat Bhairav at Dewan Badri Nath School, Camp Road, Talab Tillo. He presented two compositions in the Raag beginning with Aalaap, Madhya Laya and Drut in Teen Taal. Tabla Maestro Pt. Sarit Das accompanied him on Tabla.
Prior to this Santoor maestro & composer Abhay Rustum Sopori spoke about the need for inculcating a feel for Indian classical music among the new generation. Explaining the purpose of the SaMaPa Aalap Festival, he said that classical, folk and traditional music are the essence of Indian music and hence it was essential to take this music to the new generation so that they could take it forward to the future times.
He said that SaMaPa is not just an academy but a movement. SaMaPa, under the aegis of its Chairman - Santoor Legend and Composer Padmashri Pandit Bhajan Sopori- has been recognized at Global level in the field of Music and Culture, and holds a prestigious place in the world music scenario. SaMaPa is one of the most prestigious music centers of the country with its focus on Delhi and J&K State and as the J&K Govt. states - SaMaPa represents the heartbeat of J&K people and serves as a cultural bridge of Jammu & Kashmir and rest of the country, he added.
The programme was presented in a lecture cum demonstration style with the artistes explaining the intricacies of the music to the students with live examples. They also answered the queries of the students with regard to music and their respective instruments.
Dharam Vir Singh Jamwal, Dyputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
