Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10- Former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today said his party would act as an effective opposition to aggressively pursue the pro-people agenda. He, however, made it clear that agenda of the PDP is not to grab power but to establish sustainable peace in Jammu and Kashmir by fulfilling wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society.
Sayeed was addressing a function to welcome Shoukat Ahmed Daing in the PDP. Daing, who had contested just concluded assembly election from Banihal segment and was runner up on this seat, today, joined PDP in presence of Sayeed and other senior leaders of the party. Large number of youth from Banihal also joined the party under the leadership of Shoukat Ahmed Daing.
"Although we get less seats than National Conference (NC) yet PDP secured more votes", Sayeed said and observed, "NC has secured seats only from those areas where polling percentage was low." "We have enough strength to aggressively pursue our agenda of fulfilling wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", the former Chief Minister said and reaffirmed PDP’s commitment to facilitate the process to establish lasting peace in this region.
PDP patron said that his party would act as effective opposition in the Legislative Assembly. "The government is on test to perform as high turnout in the just concluding assembly election has increased peoples’ expectations manifold", he said.
Reiterating that self-rule proposal is only workable and viable solution to solve all problems, he said, besides incorporating internal and external dimension of the problem, wishes and aspirations of all sections of the Jammu and Kashmir have been included while formulating this visionary document. Emphasizing on the need of formulating a mechanism to remove disparities between regions and sub-regions, he said that the self-rule proposal aimed at devolution of powers at grass root level as well as maintaining special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Listing priorities of his party, Sayeed made it clear grabbing power was never been the only agenda of PDP. "Since its formation PDP has been working assiduously to establish peace in this region", he said and pointed out that prevailing peaceful atmosphere is result of the policies and programs being propagated by his party.
Daing, while speaking on the occasion, said that he has decided to join due to pro-people agenda of this party.
Former Rajya Sabha member TS Bajwa, general secretary, Daman Bhasin, Peerzada Masnoor, Choudary Zulifkar, Murtaza Khan, Manjit Singh and Falail Singh were also present on the occasion
