Early Times Report
Shopian, Jan 10 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today said PDP, with a substantive mandate, has emerged as a strong regional force to protect the State's political and economic interests. "With a substantial increase in its vote-share and number of seats, PDP has now become a major regional player on the State's political scene," she said.
Addressing a post-poll victory rally at Imamsahib in Wachi constituency today, Mehbooba said PDP would ensure that the people's participation in the political decision-making process does not remain confined to just their participation in elections. She said not only the diverse shades of political opinion, but the civil society has to be involved actively in finding solution to the State's political and economic problems.
Mehbooba said as a responsive and responsible opposition party, PDP would ensure that justice is done with all sections of the society and the party's legislators would not remain confined to the assembly proceedings to agitate the issues concerning the State and its people. "PDP will voice the just concerns and aspirations of the people at whatever forum," she said.
The PDP President said without indulging in the politics of criticism for the sake of criticism, PDP would give reasonable space and time to the new dispensation to deliver on its commitments made during the electioneering. "We expect the new Government to deliver on its promise of releasing all the political detenues, providing jobs to at least two lakh unemployed youth immediately, announce stipend for the educated unemployed youth, bring down the required educational qualification for the recruitment of constables in police to middle pass, according Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari speaking people, slashing electricity tariff, subsidize LPG and rations, implement 6th Pay Commission recommendations, increase the retirement age of the State government employees to 60 years and hike the monthly pension of the widows, orphans and destitute," she said.
Expressing gratitude to the people of the State in general and Pulwama and Shopian districts in particular for extending unequivocal support to the PDP, Mehbooba said the party would do justice with the sacred mandate by not only striving towards upholding the people's right to security, honor and dignity, but also addressing their day-to-day developmental concerns.
Strongly condemning the unrelenting Israeli brutality against hapless Palestinians, Mehbooba said the failure of the world community to prevent the merciless blood-letting of innocents in Palestine is a slur on the so-called western democracies. "The awful silence of the world community over the plight of Palestinians exhibits the worst kind of western duplicity," she said and expressed solidarity on behalf of her party with the distressed Palestinian people.
MLA Shopian Abdul Razaq Zawoora and PDP Zonal President Wachi Ghulam Hassan Bhat also addressed the rally
