| Farooq may soon be NC chief | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 10: National Conference patron and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday gave enough indication that he might take over as party president to "relieve" his chief minister-son Omar Abdullah of additional responsibilities of party work. "Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has the responsibilities of taking the state on the road to development and progress. It is imperative to take over the reins of the party to reduce the burden of party work being shouldered by him," father Abdullah told party workers here. Asking party workers to brace for Lok Sabha polls, the former chief minister said, "Wherever our party failed in the recent assembly polls, we have to know the reasons for this failure and prepare for the next examination." On peace process, Abdullah said the new government was serious to initiate dialogue between the Centre and the separatists. "Such steps will further strengthen the peace process. Our party successfully tried to involve Hurriyat leadership in the dialogue process in the past. Now, we have to take this process to its logical conclusion," Abdullah said. About autonomy to the state, Abdullah said restoration of autonomy was the goal of the party. "Our party will do its best to restore the rights guaranteed under Article 370 of the Constitution." On bonds with ally Congress he said, "Every step will be taken to further strengthen the coordination with Congress as welfare of the people lies in good relations between the two parties."
