RAMBAN, Apr 12: District Magistrate, Ramban, Mussarat Islam today sought realistic database from all stakeholder departments in coordination with Sarpanches regarding status of drug addiction and cultivation of restricted crops here at a meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting held to review the measures taken by the enforcement agencies to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal; Additional SP Gourav Mahajan; ACR Gias-ul-Haq; ACD Ashok Katoch; CEO, Dev Anand; CMO Dr. Kamal Zadu; DFO Kuldeep Singh; DSWO, Rahul Gupta; ARTO, Samrinder Singh, Tehsildars and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The DM directed all concerned to compile a database of persons indulged in drug addiction to facilitate them for their medical treatment and recovery to save their precious lives. He also directed ACD, CMOs, Police, Tehsildars and BDOs to submit a factual report regarding the status of drug addiction and cultivation of restricted crops used for addiction.
The DM also directed the CMO and enforcement departments to intensify inspection of chemist shops, health centres and currier service centres to restrict illegal transport, sale and distribution of psychotropic drug and other banned substances in the district.
During the meeting a threadbare discussion was also held on various issues pertaining to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curb the menace of drugs.
He further underscored that the Ramban Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers. He asked all concerned to make a micro level strategy to deal with the menace.
The DM sought ATR from all stakeholder departments about the measures taken by them to control the drug menace. He also directed them to launch a massive awareness campaign.
The DM appealed to parents of teenagers' and young children to keep watch on their children to prevent them from drug addiction.
