On weekend break, CM gets greetings, grievance lists

Jammu, Jan 10: A day after taking charge in office it was a weekend break for the Chief Minister which passes off in receiving courtesy calls, greeting, bouquets and list full of demands dozens of delegations called on him.
Speaking to the visiting delegations, the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has said that he has a vision to make Jammu and Kashmir a developed State of the country and sought cooperation from people in making his dream come true.
Outlining his priority sectors, the Chief Minister said that equitable and speedy development of all areas, providing basic amenities to the people of the State and tackling unemployment remain high on his agenda.
The Chief Minister was talking with a large number of deputations, which met him during the day-long public hearing, here today. These include deputations from Kupwara, Gurez, Budgam, Poonch, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Congress Lawyers, BJP legislators, Associated Chamber of Traders Federation and Pahari-speaking legislators.
The Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Devender Singh Rana, MLA, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, were also present on the occasion.
All the deputations congratulated Mr. Abdullah on becoming the Chief Minister and extended their fullest cooperation to take the State forward on the path of progress and prosperity.
The Chief Minister also had a meeting with the NC legislators, contesting candidates and senior party functionaries. Minister for Industries & Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia was also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that he will be accessible to the maximum possible extent so that there is a maximum contact between him and the people. He said this is imperative for getting feedback from the ground level, which would help in better formulation and implementation of development and welfare schemes.
Responding to the demands of a deputation from Gurez for speedy construction of Kishenganga Hydel Project and tunnel at Razdan Pass to ensure round-the-year connectivity to the area, the Chief Minister said that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities. He also said that a fortnight-long Gurez Adventure Tourism Festival would be organized this summer to give boost to tourism sector in the area. The deputation, led by NC Block President, Gurez, Mr. Mohammad Anwar Shungroo, also urged for better road connectivity, power supply and putting in place tourist infrastructure in the area. MLA, Gurez, Mr. Nazir Ahmad was also present on the occasion.
The deputation from Kupwara presented development demands of the area and emphasized for enhancing the wages under NREGA.
A deputation from Budgam, led by MLA, Aga Roohullah, also met Mr. Abdullah and congratulated him on becoming the Chief Minister.
A deputation of BJP legislators, led by MLA and former Union Minister of State, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta called on the Chief Minister and greeted him on assuming the reins of the State. They extended cooperation to the Chief Minister and also presented some demands including delimitation of the Assembly constituencies of the State, ensuring equitable development of all the regions, speedy completion of Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah Road, improvement in civic amenities in Jammu city and timely-supply of chemical fertilizers and seeds to the farmers.
Responding to the demands of the deputation, Mr. Abdullah said that he had already said in the press conference yesterday that a vibrant opposition acts as a check and balance and keeps the Government on the right track. He said that the demands put forth by them would be looked into.
The deputation from Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by its President, Mr. Ram Sahai said that every one has high hopes from the youngest Chief Minister of the State and exuded confidence that Jammu and Kashmir would touch new heights of development under his dynamic leadership. They demanded taking measures for growth of the industry and evolving a trade policy for the State.
A deputation of Congress lawyers, led by Mr. B. S. Slathia, also met Mr. Abdullah and greeted him on becoming the Chief Minister. Speaking to the deputation, the Chief Minister said that all of us have to work together and come up to the expectations of the people.
Another deputation of Associated Chamber of Traders' Federation called on Mr. Abdullah and presented to him their demands. The deputation was led by its President, Mr. Yashpal Gupta. They also appreciated the announcement of the Chief Minister to bring Right to Information Act in the State at par with the Central Act.
MLA, Idgah, Mr. Mubatak Gul also met Mr. Abdullah and congratulated him on becoming the Chief Minister.
