| Jamwal to get Sangeet Natak Akademi Award-2009 | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 11- Renowned playwright of the State Narsingh Dev Jamwal has been selected for this year's Sangeet Natak Akademi Award – the highest National honour in the field performing arts. He is the first playwright of Dogri language who is being conferred this prestigious Award for his most significant and highly innovative contribution in the field of modern and contemporary Indian theatre. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh besides a "tamrapatra" and an "angavastram." .The award will be presented to him in New Delhi during next month by President of India Partibha Devi Singh Patil. Disclosing this here at winter capital today ,Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages stated that this an honour for our State as well adding that Jamwal has been selected by the high level jury constituted by the SNA and Jamwal has been chosen keeping in view his distinguished and high profile contribution for promotion and propagation of Performing Arts of Duggar land. Born on February 28, 1931 in Bhalwal village of Jammu district, Narsingh Dev Jamwal is widely recognized within and outside the State as a writer, sculptor, playwright, novelist, short story writer, essayist, lyricist and actor. Receptionist of J&K State's Gold Medal and Distinguished Services Award for Dogri literature, he was also awarded by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages in 1972, 1989, 1993. He has also been awarded by Sahitey Akademi for the year 1978 in Dogri. All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendera and a number of NGO's also awarded Jamwal for his contribution towards the development of Dogri language and literature. Jamwal has so for contributed nine books of poetry, four of Short-stories, three Novels and 27 books as playwright of Dogri and is considered as one of the leading writer and theatre artistes of the country. Retired as a Police officer, Jamwal worked with Brig. Rajinder Singh throughout Tribal War in 1947.During his 32 year service in Police department he had rendered many commendable services. Being prominent painter and sculpture of the State Jamwal participated in number of Exhibitions organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and other National and International organizations. Doordarshan and All India Radio have also telecasted a number of tele-serials written by Jamwal.
