KVK organises field day on oilseed crop

REASI, Apr 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu(SKUAST-J) organized field day on Gobhi Sarson crop here at Jadh village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthustically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The major objective of the programme was to promote oilseed crops cultivation and showcase the success of Gobhi Sarson cultivation in the area so as to popularize the latest technologies in oilseed crop. KVK, Reasi laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on Gobhi Sarson of variety RSPN-25 at farmers fields in the area. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-Jammu, Prof.SK Gupta. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the farmers. He started the programme with the brief introduction of Rabi oilseed crops and said that Gobhi Sarson is one of the leading oilseed crops in the region and farmers can enhance their farm income by growing it in a scientific way. He educated the farmers on the importance of oilseeds crops and encouraged them to grow the recommended varieties of oilseed crops for more returns. He guided farmers on the scientific farming of oilseed crops and urged them to adopt the latest technologies of oilseeds so that they can enhance their crops productivity. He stressed on the organic techniques for oilseed crops production so as to produce safe, healthy and nutritive oil. He emphasized on improved varieties and timely weeding/hoeing in G.Sarson crop for its good yield. He also stressed on the Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Gobhi Sarson crop so that its production can be enhanced in the area. He discussed on certain diseases and insect-pests infesting oilseeds crops and gave their remedial measures. He also discussed on the value addition, branding, tagging and marketing in oilseeds crops to increase the income of the farmers. The farmers showed keen interested in the technologies demonstrated by the KVK and were willing to adopt the scientific technologies recommended by the KVK. During the interaction session farmers gave their feedback on Gobhi Sarson variety RSPN-25 demonstrated by KVK, Reasi and expressed satisfaction for the implementation of the technologies in the area. During the programme progressive farmers shared their successful experiences on oilseeds crops with the other farmers of the area. Later on a field visit was also arranged during the programme. The programme was concluded by Sh.Mohd.Altaf, progressive farmer of the area with the formal vote of thanks.
