Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 20: A meeting of the General Category People's Front Jammu & Kashmir (GCPF) held under the chairmanship of the Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Front in which members deliberated upon the socio-economic and political problems being faced by the General Category People especially lower middle class. Addressing the meeting Prof Yash Paul Sanson, President of the front said that general category people are annoyed with government because it failed to end caste and religious discrimination with majority community and played the role of exploiters and enemies of General Category. People would show mirror to deaf and dumb govt. on appropriate time. The majority has been deprived of their basic fundamental rights including their political right to be elected. Sanson alleged that they are being humiliated, humbled and marginalized and continued to be robbed of their due share in jobs, admissions and politics. They are victims of government biased, prejudicial and partial treatment. As a result an average income of a Brahmin is the lowest today in the country. He demanded the ending of SCs/STs Atrocity Act and caste based reservation and a legal provision of 'Equality Act' to ensure equal rights and equal laws for all citizens. Som Nath Sharma, Gen. Secretary referred to the intending strife of people due to Tax-terrorism launched by Govt. he said that JKUT administration has failed to meet the genuine and rational aspirations of the people. Price-rise perpetuated through hike of electric and water charges, service tax, tolls and property tax has made the life of people difficult. Arrogant and non-serious JKUT administration has been working like a Corporate House. Opening of wine shops in Jammu with sole aim of imposing taxes on people making their life miserable. He urged upon the Govt. to cut 50% of water and electric bills and reduce taxes. V.K. Sharma demanded release of D.A installment of 4% and enhancement of medical allowance from Rs. 300/- to Rs. 1000/- per month. Deepak Khajuria, Surinder Sharma, Bhushan Pargal, Jagdish Dogra expressed their views and blamed Congress and BJP for dividing the society on caste and religious lines through their divisive socio-economic and political policies to create vote-bank. The posterity will never forgive them for sowing the seeds of caste-culture/reservation in the Indian polity that has adversely impacted the General Category people who have determined to oppose caste-culture politically, using their votes / NOTA option in the coming elections. Banathia, in his address thanked all participants for their continued support to the Front.
