KVK organises Field Day on Chickpea Crop

REASI, Apr 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized field day on chickpea (gram) crop here today at Gunn village in Pouni block of Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of women farmers' of the area.KVK, Reasi has laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on chickpea crop of improved varieties in different locations of the area. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The objective of the programme was to showcase the performance of the demonstrated variety of chickpea crop to the farmers of the area. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants. He addressed the farmers on the importance of cultivation of pulse crops and guided them on the scientific cultivation of chickpea. He said that there is huge potential in pulses production in the area and there is need to increase the quantity and quality of pulses in the area by using the modern technologies. He added that there is need to increase the chickpea production in the area and suggested the farmers that scientific cultivation of chickpea can help them to increase its production by which they can enhance their income. He said that pulses are rich in proteins and they should be taken regularly in the diet especially by the vegetarians. He stressed on the improved varieties of chickpea and suggested certain recommended varieties of chickpea which can give better performance as compared to the traditional varieties. He stressed on the Integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management in chickpea crop for better returns. He stressed on seed treatment in chickpea crop and guided farmers on value addition in pulse crops. He also discussed on organic and natural farming practices in chickpea and guided farmers on the bio-control agents in chickpea.The laid chickpea fields were demonstrated to the participants and they were highly impressed by observing the results in the demonstrated fields.The scientist interacted with the participants and got feedback of the Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on chickpea of improved varieties laid by KVK, Reasi. Farmers showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by the KVK scientists and they were ready to adopt them. During the programme various quarries were raised by the participants which KVK scientist answered in a satisfactorily way. Participants appreciated the KVK, Reasi strenuous efforts for the promotion of scientific pulses production in the area and thanked KVK for the demonstrations laid in their village. The programme was concluded by Sunita Devi, an awardee woman farmer with the formal vote of thanks.
