KVK organises training programme on entrepreneurship development

REASI, Apr 26: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organised training programme on "Entrepreneurship development in fruit and vegetable processing" here today at Seela village in Reasi distt. of J&K under the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project which was enthusiastically attended by the number of women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the objectives of the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project and stressed on the involvement of rural youths in agricultural sector. He said that the value addition in seasonal fruits and vegetables can help to generate more income and employment among the rural women of hilly areas. He encouraged the participants for the processing of fruits and vegetables by which they can fetch more money and improve their socio-economic conditions. He highlighted the need of value addition in agriculture and educated participants on income generating activities. He said that fruits and vegetables are rich source of proteins, minerals and vitamins and by their value addition farmers can generate more income and employment. He emphasized on cluster based approach and stressed on the formation and strengthening of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for more profits. He added that the women should jointly work for the entrepreneurship development in the fruit and vegetable processing. He stressed on the processing of organic crops for more returns. He encouraged the women farmers by exemplifying the successful agro-entrepreneurs in the area and encouraged them to start more and more fruit and vegetables processing units in the rural areas. He also guided the participants on packaging, labeling and branding of the processed products. Pooja Devi, master trainer spoke on the techniques of processing of fruits and vegetables. She guided the participants in the value addition in fruit and vegetables processing by elaborating the preparation of various techniques. She also discussed about the ingredients used in the value added products of fruits and vegetables. In this programme, women farmers asked certain quarries regarding the entrepreneurship development in fruit and vegetable processing which were answered satisfactorily by the experts. During the programme quality packaging material was also provided to the participants. The programme was concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
