Another party to appear on Kashmir’s political arena

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 26: Amid demand for holding of the long-awaited Assembly elections in the Union Territory, Kashmir is likely to float another political party soon.
Sources said some of the disgruntled politicians, who are not enjoying good relations with their respective party heads are planning to float a new party.
Some of such leaders had been close to one particular political party in particular in the past.
Sources said such leaders have been in touch with a senior politician who has been distancing himself from being close to any party for the last around two years.
Sources said the deliberations on this front have been going on for long and that more meetings were expected in the coming times.
Sources said most of such leaders look ahead to visit Delhi before taking a final call on the issue. “Floating a new party is not that easy so one will have to discuss things with the policy makers in Delhi,” said a source in the know of the matter.
The sources said the matter was likely to be discussed in Delhi after the first fortnight of May.
The sources said till now, however, there has been little response to the plans of floating the new party. “Though some prominent faces known in politics are looking ahead for the plan, it looks difficult to rope in more faces, which is essential to float a new party,” the sources said.
Since the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir, at least three new parties including the ones floated veteran politician, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Syed Altaf Bukhari and Mir Junaid have already been there in the field.
Observers said there was every possibility that more parties could be floated ahead of the Assembly elections awaited since 2018 when the last elected government had collapsed.
“Actually people don’t trust the old regional parties any further but the problem is that even the new parties are also unable to have a clear-cut policy and amid this confusion there will always be scope for new parties coming in,” said a political observer.
