Another political party
4/27/2023 11:05:18 PM

Another political party is likely to appear in Kashmir as the disgruntled politicians who are not enjoying cordial relations with their party heads are likely to come together.
After the abrogation of Article 370 political parties in Kashmir are looking for ways and means to survive. Politicians have been caught in a Catch-22 situation. They have no idea about what the future holds for them.
After August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to scrap J&K’s special status and divide it into two Union Territories, political parties in Kashmir have been finding it hard to remain relevant.
The traditional parties like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party, which remained in power after 1996 are finding it hard to keep their flocks together.
According to the media reports the disgruntled leaders of the Kashmir based political parties are already discussing the option of coming together but they haven’t taken a final call till now.
It’s not only the NC and PDP that are facing problems in Kashmir, other parties, including the Congress Party, are also sailing in the same boat.
As far as the new political party is concerned, it may come into existence in Kashmir soon if it gets a go ahead from New Delhi as one of the senior politicians in Kashmir has been without any role for a long time.
After the scrapping of Article 370, the NC and PDP had tried to bring all the Kashmir based parties on a common platform by forming Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) but the alliance couldn’t last long as it crumbled soon after the results of District Development Council (DDC) elections were declared.
The alliance had fought the elections together and the NC had bagged highest number of seats among the alliance partners.
Emergence of Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari and Democratic Azad Progressive Party (DAPP) led by former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are capable of upsetting the plans of the traditional parties and going is not going to be easy for any political formations especially in Kashmir region.
If one more political party appears on the scene it can also add to the worries of the existing political players. But the big question which everyone is asking when assembly elections will be held in J&K. Polls only can decide which politician stands where.
