| PDP to rake up demand for demilitarization | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12:-Though the PDP leadership has decided to play a constructive role as the major opposition party it plans raking the demand for demilitarization and repeal of Armed Forces (special powers) Act with vigor. Party sources said that these two demands will be projected even on the floor of the state legislature. The party source said that in addition to these two issues "we will focus our attention on the self-rule concept as it was an ideal solution to the Kashmir issue. "In reply to a question the PDP sources said that the greater autonomy demand by the National Conference only addressed the internal dimensions of the problem whereas "our self-rule concept covers the external dimensions too.” Explaining it the sources said that the idea of elf-rule has a provision for open borders, greater people to people contact, joint management, enhanced level of trade between the two sides and repeal of those Central laws which had diluted the spirit of Article 370.Once it was done the state could have its own Election Commission and an elected Governor who is a citizen of the state. According to the party sources, implementation of the self-rule concept would reduce the level of tension and conflict between India and Pakistan. It would also remove people alienation and weaken the base of separatist forces. They said some of the draconian laws including Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act had enhanced the level of peoples' alienation. They said that in order to reduce the level of anger among people and custodial killings time had come for sending troops back to the barracks.
