| Security upped in Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12 : The security in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir has been beefed up prior to the Republic Day celebrations. Additional forces have been deployed in and around the city peripheries for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day function, which would be held at Maulana Azad Stadium situated in the heart of the city. ‘’The venue, where the main function is to be held, has been thrown under tight blanket of security cover, while additional troops of para-military forces are taking care of safety of the venue,’’ official sources said. ‘’In the wake of the recent Mumbai terrorist attacks and nine-day long Mendhar operation, three-tier security arrangements have been made to celebrate the occasion,’’ the sources said. Besides deployment of troops, checking at various points has also been intensified, while no vehicle is being allowed to move with tinted glasses. ‘’The tinted glasses on vehicles are being removed for security reasons, while those vehicles, which are not authorised to use ‘’flasher lights’’ are also being challaned,’’ a senior police officer said. However, the M A Stadium has been closed for the sports activities as the venue is under tight security and the inspection is being carried by the special teams of police officers.
