| BOSE official among 8 arrested as police busts fake certificate racket | | | Srinagar, July 11: Police today claimed to have busted an organized syndicate allegedly involved in `preparing and selling of fake educational certificate' and arrested at least eight persons including an official of State Board of School Education and a computer engineer.
As per the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anantnag-Pulwama range Himant Kumar Lohia, the racketeers have alleged prepared and sold more than one thousands certificates, mostly marks-sheets across the Kashmir region. ""This is a big racket involving thousands of students, who have probably managed admissions in various educational institutions on the basis of these certificates", he added.
The DIG told media persons, here today, that so fare eight persons have been arrested in this connection, who were running the racket and were having strong connections in various government offices including BOSE, higher secondary institutions and degree colleges.
"Besides marks card, the fraudster were also preparing fake provisional and character certificate of some premier educational institutions including BISCO School, SP College, Women College Srinagar and Gandhi memorial college", the DIG added. "As per the investigation conducted so far it was learnt that the accused were charging few thousands rupees to Rs 50,000 from the beneficiaries", he added.
Giving details, Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, Nitish Kumar said that the racket surfaced when principal Government Higher Secondary institute (Boys) Pulwama lodged a written complaint with the police station Pulwama. The police was informed that one Shamim Ahmed Dar son of Nazir Ahmed of Lethpora approached the institute along with Marks card and result notification of BOSE for obtaining the provisional certificate of class 12th, which the principal suspected to be fake.
He added that during the course of investigation it was revealed that the certificate/ Result Notification produced by the accused were actually fake. On his disclosure Fayaz Ahmed Seraj, an employee in BOSE was arrested and on the sustained interrogation of both the accused it came to light that an organized syndicate is working in Kashmir which in involved in preparing and selling of these `Fake Educational Certificate'.
Nitish further added that this Fake Educational Certificate racket was active since long and a number the involvement of some more BOSE employees can not be ruled out.
He informed that number of accused including Muneer Ahmed Khan, Fayaz Ahmed Lhaje, Umar Jmeel Pandit, Nawaab Ahmed Kunash, Muhammad Ayub Ganai and Irshad Rasool Bhat have been arrested. Three computers along with CDs were also recovered from the area.
On the directions of the Judicial Magistrate Pulwama a computer engineer was deployed for the retrieval of the data from those CDs and the retrieved data indicated that the racket has prepared thousands of fake mark sheets and degree certificated of Kashmir University and BOSE.
"On enquiry it was also revealed that number of students have taken admission in various institutions for various courses like PUC, TDC, BA etc using such
fake certificates".
He added that there is every possibility that many students have got admission in various degree colleges on the basis of these certificates without being eligible. "More than a dozen students have managed admission in Degree College Pulwama itself n the basis of these certificates" he said adding, "Necessary verification was being made from the BOSE record".
