| Former Congress Ministers, Legislators camping in Delhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: Ahead of the expansion of Omar Abdullah cabinet, expected in new few days, all top leaders of the Congress have been summoned by the high command in New Delhi for twin purposes –introspection on losses and future course of action. Sources said that many senior Congress leaders were taking repeated rounds of New Delhi for seeking rehabilitation in the Ministry or Upper House of the legislature following which the high command has summoned all former Minister and Legislators who lost the recent assembly elections. Even as some of the former Ministers who lost elections, including Mangat Ram Sharma and Gulchain Singh Charak are making desperate attempts for rehabilitation but the Congress leadership is reportedly not interested in rehabilitating the losers. Sources pointed out that for the time being the Congress has decided against recommending the names of those party men, who had lost the Assembly election, for berth in the council of ministers. According to the Congress sources, the high command is under pressure from the defeated candidates for induction in the cabinet. “Effort will be to give representation to each district in the council of ministers”, said the sources. They said since there is only one party MLA in the valley who has not been inducted in the cabinet and therefore the party high command may consider two of the three legislators who were not opposed in the elections - Ghulam Hassan Mir, Hakeem Mohammed Yasin and MY Tarigami. Asked about other probable candidates, the source said that as per the agreement with the National Conference the Congress can recommend eight more party MLAs for induction in the cabinet. Even if two of the three associate members were given berth in the cabinet the Congress could recommend the names of Ajaz Ahmed Khan, Raman Bhalla, Abdul Majid Wani, G.A Saroori, Ch.Aslam and Dr Manohar Lal for induction in the ministry. In reply to another question party sources said that the names of other aspirant for cabinet berth could be considered later as the party may opt for reshuffle after two to three years so that nonperforming ministers could be dropped to accommodate those who have been elected to the Legislative Council. They indicated that the Congress high command was under pressure for nominating Mangat Ram Sharma and Gulchain Singh Charak for a seat in the upper House along with BR Kundal, former Chief Secretary.
