Sagar for proper implementation of RD Schemes

JAMMU, JANUARY 13 – Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar has stressed the need for proper implementation of Rural Development Schemes, so that the welfare measures initiated by the government for the people living in far-flung areas of the state percolate to the ground level.
Sagar was addressing a meeting of officers of the Rural Development Department here today. Calling for accountability and transparency in the implementation process, Mr. Sagar said due care should be taken for completing the process within the stipulated timeframe.
“We have to ensure timely execution of schemes so that the people feel a sense of connectivity with implementing agencies and government as a whole. Time factor is an important parameter of various centrally sponsored schemes and loopholes, if any, should also be done away with”, he maintained.
Sagar said that since a major chunk of the population of the state lives in rural areas the importance of the rural development related schemes is pivotal. The benefits of welfare measures initiated by the government should also reach to them. He further exhorted the officers of the department to work tirelessly and promised them that the government would provide every sort of assistance vis-à-vis infrastructure and other related things to them. “We should also see to it that financial code is strictly adhered to while carrying out various developmental works”, he urged.

The meeting was informed that 119 model villages are being developed at a cost of Rs. 142. 80 crore under Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan, an amount of Rs. 1.20 crore being spent on each village. Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) about 32.89 lakh mandays have been generated during 2006-07 and an amount of Rs. 25.84 crore have been spent on the same.
It was further given out that Rs. 33.66 crore has been spent on Sampooran Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) during the year 2007-08 in 13 districts of the State. Under Indira Awas Yojana an amount of Rs. 38.38 crore have been spent during 2007-08.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Rural Development Department Mr. M. S. Khan, Additional Secretary Rural Development, Director Rural Development Department, Jammu, Superintending Engineers of both the provinces and senior officers of the department.
