DDC reviews implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Catch the rain initiative

UDHAMPUR, May 2: To review the latest status of progress made under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Catch the rain 2023 campaign in the district, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Sachin Kumar Vaishya today convened a meeting of officers of line departments here in his office chamber.
At the outset, Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti, Ashok Sharma briefed the chair about the parameters of CTR, the latest progress on schemes and role of different departments for effective implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Catch the rain initiative in the district.
Speaking at the meeting, the DDC impressed upon the officers to work with zeal and dedication to achieve the targets set for the current financial year. He further called for close monitoring of ongoing works to ensure quality and adherence to timelines. He asked the stakeholder departments to work in cohesion and make dedicated and coordinated efforts to conserve and preserve water for the present and future generations.
The DDC set June 30, 2023 as the deadline for the completion of the execution of works under JJM. The Concerned officers were directed to visit the rural and far flung areas of the district to get first hand information of the progress of works under JJM scheme. The DC directed all the officers of line departments to work in coordination for better results at the grassroots level.
The need for generating mass awareness about the importance of water conservation, with special focus on rain water harvesting techniques was also stressed upon. The DDC asked the officers present in the meeting to ensure the rain water harvesting initiative is implemented in letter and spirit in the district. Officers were exhorted to put maximum emphasis on motivation and facilitation of the general public to adopt roof water harvesting and replicate the same for water conservation in their respective areas.
Pertinent to mention here that Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Catch the rain 2023 was launched by the Government of India on 4th March, 2023 in all the districts of the country, covering both rural and urban area with the central theme “ source sustainability for drinking water “ to bring the necessary focus on sustainability of drinking water supply, specially ground water sources and springs. Additional District Development Commissioner, Ghan Sham Singh, Chief Planning Officer, Mudassir Yaqoob Zargar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral and other district officers attended the meeting.
