Discrimination Ends
5/2/2023 10:54:49 PM

From August 15, 1947, to August 5, 2019, West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) were treated as unequals.
For seventy years the WPRs couldn’t get citizenship rights in Jammu and Kashmir. They were deprived of participating in the assembly elections and couldn’t apply for government jobs.
The scrapping of Article 370 ended the 7-decade long discrimination faced by the WPRs. During the past three years the government has ensured that besides citizenship rights, the WPRs get all the facilities which every J&K citizen is entitled to.
After 2019 the government has extended benefits of all the schemes to them to realize their dreams and build their lives.
The government is finalizing the ownership rights of lands to WPRs as the Centre is keen to ensure that their all demands are met.
It was not Article 370 but also Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, which deprived these refugees to get rights like other citizens of J&K. Article 35-A was incorporated in the Indian Constitution on May 14 1954 by presidential order without any debate in the Parliament it denied rights to West Pak Refugees.
The Article 35-A enabled the State Assembly to define ‘permanent residents’ and to give them special rights and privileges, as well as to restrict the rights and privileges of all citizens of India who do not fit into this definition of permanent resident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led dispensation ended all the discriminations once for all and brought all citizens on equal footing.
As of date every J&K citizen is enjoying all the facilities that are available to the people across the country.
For 70-years the WPRs were promised that they would be given equal rights but the dispensations that came into power in Centre and the erstwhile J&K State fell short of fulfilling their promises.
After the reorganization of J&K all the communities, including WPRs, have been provided equal opportunities to excel in their lives and move on the path of prosperity.
Anyone can take admission in schools, colleges and other institutions. No one is barred from applying for any job or any contract.
The PM Modi led regime has integrated J&K completely with the Union of India and has ended all the discriminations and disparities once for all.
