Early Times Report

Jammu, May 2: The Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Katra to ensure safety of pilgrims and devotees. The Division Bench of the High Court closed the proceedings in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which was filed to seek directions to the Government of J&K to make public the enquiry report of 3 member committee to look into the unfortunate incident of stampede at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Bhawan which resulted in death of 12 devotees and injuries to several others.
The Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal observed that the DB is satisfied with steps taken by the Board to regulate the smooth conduct of the Yatra, therefore, no fruitful purpose would be achieved to keep the present PIL alive and we deem it appropriate to close the proceedings in the present Public Interest Litigation.
