| Defeated former MLAs’ planning to apply for pension | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13- Those members of the 10th Assembly who, after having lost the recent election, will now apply for pension. When the 10th Assembly was dissolved in the first week of July majority of members had not applied for pension. While some were hopeful to win the next election others were not prepared to undergo the exercise of procuring no objection certificates from various Government departments, including the PDD, PHE, hospitality and Protocol and General Administration Department. Raman Bhalla of the Congress and Harsh Dev Singh of the Panthers Party and many others said that "it was better to wait for seeking fresh election to undergoing strenuous task of securing no objection certificates.” And besides these two leaders others who have been also reelected to the Assembly will have no need for seeking pension as they are entitled to get the regular monthly salary. Those who lost the election will have no other alternative but to apply for pension .One former MLA said "well I have to seek pensionary benefits because I cannot wait for six years when the next election will be due.” About a dozen former MLAs do not seem to be in hurry for applying for pension because they have been trying to get elected to the Legislative Council. Among such aspirants include Mangat Ram Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Qazi Mohammed Afzal, Ch Gharu Ram, Mohammed Dilawar Mir, Manjit Singh, Ajay Sadhotra, Suman Lata Bhagat and Mohammed Shafi. Another lot of former MLAs, who were drawing pension, will be now be entitled to regular salary after they were elected to the Assembly in the recent election. This lot includes Ch. Mohammed Ramzan, Sakina Itoo and Surjit Singh Slathia .While the sitting MLAs will get nearly Rs.40, 000 a month and those who have lost the election and were to seek pensionary benefits are entitled to Rs.12, 000 pension.
