| Shortage of doctors hampers working in hospitals across J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 13- The District and Sub-District Hospitals and Primary Health Centers across Kashmir valley are facing acute shortage of doctors, paramedics and equipment thereby compounding the problems of patients in the valley. This was stated by senior PDP leaders Abdul Gafar Sofi, Javed Mustafa Mir and Bashir Assad in a joint statement issued here today. "There is shortage of Doctors, paramedical staff and essential equipments in every nook and corner of Kashmir valley" the statement said and added that there is also dearth of specialists and the much hyped National Rural Health Mission Scheme does not exist on the ground. The district hospitals in Kashmir valley have to cater to patients from far-flung and remote areas but the non-availability of specialists does impact their health as well as their pocket as they have to spend thousands while moving to Srinagar for specialized treatment. "Modern diagnostic equipments like endoscope device, CT scan and ortho- equipment are either not available or non-functional in district hospitals making it very difficult for the patients to undergo treatment in their respective districts forcing the doctors to refer the patients to Srinagar where condition of most of our prestigious hospitals is no more better and where the atmosphere is totally unhygienic" PDP leaders asserted. PDP leaders said that the hospitals in Srinagar city remain over crowded and could not cater to the demands taking into account the huge rush of patients and demanded the government should come out with a sound, pragmatic and practicable policy to improve the condition of hospitals in the state with both short and long-term mechanism to cater to the needs and demands of the patients.
