6 drug peddlers with psychotropic substances arrested: J&K Police

Srinagar, May 7: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers and recovered psychotropic substances from their possession in Kashmir valley.
A police party at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully.
The dao were identified as Shabir Ahmad Sheikh and Ashiq Ahmad Khanday both residents of Bazar Mohalla Pattan, police said and added 210 SpasmoProxyvon Plus capsules and 7 Syrups of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession
Police also arrested a wanted drug peddler identified as Abdul Qayoom Ganie a resident of Trikanjan Boniyar during naka checking at Boniyar Market in Baramulla district and recovered 45 grams of Brown Sugar like substance from his possession.
In the Central Kashmir’s Budgam district police at a checkpoint established at Hyderpora Bypass Flyover intercepted a vehicle with two persons on board and signalled them to stop. However, the driver tried to flee from the spot but a police party chased them and were apprehended tactfully.
During checking, 24 bottles of psychotropic substance were recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Saleem Yousuf a resident of Syed Hyder Colony Hyderpora Srinagar and Fazil Iqbal of Hyderpora.
Police at Adpora crossing in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, 11 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession.
He has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Malik Alias Gama a resident of Bongam, Kulgam.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, police said adding a vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, Police added.
