Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 8: Fencing wall of a sports stadium collapsing after a rainfall at Marhama Anantnag has brought to fore the alleged use of substandard material used in construction of the wall.
A teacher of Government Primary School Ikhrajpora while talking to Early Times said, “Our school is below this stadium and when this wall was constructed we had informed the sports council that this fencing poses threat to the lives of students and staff members of the school.”
The teacher said, “This lining wall had developed cracks and we were apprehensive about it causing damage. This wall collapsed during night had it collapsed in day time it could have led to injuries or loss of life.”
He said, “We had written to the Sports Council in November 2022 about the danger the fencing poses due to the lack of drainage system and substandard material used for building this wall. But no heed was paid towards the warning sounded by us.”
Locals demanded that the government should order a probe to ascertain why substandard material was used to build this wall and why it was done without any planning. They urged higher ups to take a note and order an inquiry.
