2 Day Handloom & Craft Exhibition cum Sale organised in Poonch

POONCH, May 10: A two day exhibition cum sale is organised by Handloom and Handicrafts Department Poonch today on Wednesday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary at Pritam Park Poonch.
The exhibition aims to promote the local crafts of the area and provide a platform to the artisans to showcase their craftsmanship and skills. The program also aims to generate awareness amongst the masses regarding various beneficiary schemes being run by the department The event received overwhelming response from the general public at large.
The programme was organised under the overall supervision of Assistant Director, Handicrafts /Handloom Poonch, Shazia Rehman.
The AD Handloom informed that a total of 42 shawls were sold with a Revenue generation of 21300 and several products of chikhri wood were also sold out.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the department to make these products commercially viable and to connect the local artisans with online platforms like Myntra, Amazon etc. He also shared the ideas to modernize the craft. He appreciated the department for the efforts put in to promote the craft sector in Poonch. He also interacted with Weavers and Artisans registered with the department. Local art and craft has huge potential to generate employment for the youth as well as self help groups/cooperatives, he further added.
