| Omar speaks to Miliband | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JAN 14: The all-powerful British Foreign Secretary David Miliband was in the Union Capital meeting top Indian leadership but Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sitting in Jammu did not miss the opportunity of making a point towards easing tension in the region –he spoke to Miliband through teleconferencing. An official spokesman for the Chief Minister said that Omarhad a teleconference last evening with the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. David Miliband, who is currently on a visit to India. The Chief Minister and the British Foreign Secretary also discussed Indo-Pak relations in the light of the Mumbai attacks. Mr. Abdullah emphasized that Indo-Pak relations have a great bearing on Jammu and Kashmir and its people as they get positively or negatively impacted by the nature of the relations between the two neighbouring countries. The Chief Minister urged upon the British Foreign Secretary to use his influence to make the international community play its role to ease the tension between the two countries. He said that the two countries have already initiated various confidence building measures including cross-LOC trade and people-to-people contact, which have generated tremendous goodwill and the same are required to be carried forward, in the interest of both the countries. While appreciating the strong foundation of skill and technical development laid in Britain, the Chief Minister expressed his keen desire to work with UK for modernizing technical education system and skill development in Jammu and Kashmir in tune with the present and futuristic job market requirements across the globe. He said that tackling unemployment in the State is top on his agenda, adding that skill development would go a long way in enhancing employability among youth and creating avenues of employment.
