Katra Police trying to pass on murder of my daughter as suicide: Mother
Teenage girl’s mysterious death
5/12/2023 10:51:44 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: Family members of the a teenage girl, who was found hanging in a hotel at Katra in mysterious circumstances on April 9, 2023, on Friday alleged that their daughter was murdered and she hadn’t committed a suicide.
Talking to Early Times mother of the victim, said, “ Katra Police are trying to pass on the murder of my daughter as suicide. She has been killed and it should be investigated. I knew my daughter had no reasons to end her life.”
Basant Lal, father of the victim, said, “Since the day my daughter has been found dead I have been running from pillar to post to know why and how she committed suicide.”
Recalling the day when he was called by the Katra Police, he said, “When I reached Katra, I was shown the body of my daughter hurriedly and was told to take her body and perform her last rites.”
He said, “Police didn’t record the statements of her colleagues. Neither have they collected any evidence. Nor have they got the postmortem report. It seems they haven’t even registered a case.”
Basant Lal said, “I tried talking to my daughter’s colleagues. They were tightlipped but they told me that she was fine and a happy girl.”
He said, “All my pleas to seek justice have fallen flat as Police are even refusing to listen to me.”
“No one is ready to listen to me. I have been approaching one officer after another but to no avail, as cops are not ready to even listen to my grievance”, Lal said.
“It is all due to my economic condition that police officers are taking the mysterious murder of my daughter casually”, said Lal, who is a resident of a remote village of Ramnagar area of Udhampur.
The helpless father has reason to question the intention of the police because, after the passing of nearly one month, police have yet not received a postmortem report.
Addressing a press conference last week, Lal had alleged: “Owner of the hotel where my daughter was serving is an influential person so cops are trying to hush-up the murder of my teenage daughter” he had said.
“Due to their behaviour and inhuman attitude, I have lost faith in Katra Police”, he had said and aired apprehension that by abusing his position the hotel owner will change the postmortem report with the “help of police officers.”
Narrating the unfortunate episode, he had recalled that on April 8 evening, he had spoken to his daughter and she was happy and satisfied with her job.
“On April 9, I received a call on my phone from Police Station Katra. I was informed that my daughter is critical and asked to rush to Katra immediately”, he said and regretted that when he reached Katra he was informed that his daughter has committed suicide.
“Police kept me in the dark”, he pointed out and added that cops were not even ready to record the statement of the colleagues of his deceased daughter.
Lal had urged the Lieutenant Governor LG Sinha to hand over his daughter’s case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“Police haven’t even registered a FIR in the case. Nor have they collected her postmortem report. We don’t even know her cause of death. She died on April 9, 2023 and till date I don’t know what led to my daughter’s death.”
He said, “Police are trying to pass on the murder of my daughter as a suicide and I have lost hope to get justice. My hand folded appeal to LG Sinha is to handover my daughter’s case to CBI and order an enquiry to know why Police haven’t collected the postmortem report till date.”
