| SKUAST-J Scientists hold meet with farmers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JAN: 14 The Director research of Shere-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-J) Dr. Nazir Ahmad Sudhan emphasized on the balanced and timely application of inputs like seed, fertilizers and insecticides. Addressing the meeting of agriculture scientists of SKUAST-J with farmers at Rakh Dhiansar, near Bari Brahmana he said, in spite of using good quality of seed, farmer fails to get good yield, due to reason that he has not applied balanced fertilizer to the crop. He on the occasion suggested growing of fruit trees, like Amla, Bor and Medicinal plants along with wheat, maize and mustard. Senior scientist and incharge dry land research station Dr. V. S. Verma on the occasion stressed on farmers to grow Amla trees in kandi areas as it fetch good price in the market Dr. Verma also suggested to farmers to grow bamboo, ber along with dhaman trees to get fodder beside fuel-wood. HOD, Agroforestry Dr. Mohd Saleem in his address asked formers of kandi bell to cultirate medicinal and aromatic plants along with agro-forestry related trees to get fodder for cattle and fuel wood during lean period. Formers Sukhdev Singh, Bansi Lal, Pradeep Sharma and Sham Singh discussed various problems related to non-availability of timely seed, fertilizers etc to farmers. Among others present in the meeting were Dr. R.R. Jat Dr. K.R. Sharma, Er. N.K. Gupta, Dr. Ashok Gupta, Dr. M.K. Khushu, Dr. Bikram Singh, Dr. R.C. Kashyap, Hamid Ahmed, Sajjad Ahmad.
