| Cent percent literacy prime objective of govt : Peerzada | | | Early Times Report JAMMU JANUARY 14- To upgrade the educational architecture of the state and to make it more reachable, affordable and practicable and to benefit people who, hitherto, were deprived of it for a plethora of reasons, Social, economical and political, Minister for School Education and Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today said that all measures would be taken to strengthen the basic edifice of education. He said that seeking cent per cent literacy in the state is one of the foremost goals of coalition government and added that no compromises would be made on this account.
The Minister was addressing officers of the department in a meeting taken to review the achievements and to explore further improvements of various state and centrally sponsored schemes like Rashtriya Madamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Kasturba Ghandi Balika Vidhalya Shiksha (KGBVS), EGS and Midday meals scheme among other important issues, today. Among others who attended the meeting were Secretary School Education Mr. G. A. Peer, Director School Education Jammu, Project Director SSA and other officers of the department.
It was given out in the meeting that under RMSA, model schools would be established in all educationally backward blocks on the pattern of Kendriya Vidhalya’s and Jawaher Navodhya Vidhalya’s and girls hotels built for the students belonging to SC/ST and other minorities. Besides this, the meeting was told that Means-Merit Scholarships would be introduced to help the deserving students financially.
The meeting also discussed ways and means for provision of computers alongwith the relevant infrastructure in primary and secondary schools under the ICT mission. In this regard, it was revealed that till now 340 computers have been established and 200 are in the pipe line, in the state.
It was also revealed that under KGBVS, schools are being sanctioned in those educationally backward blocks where female literacy level is less than the national average. The meeting was told that out of the 79 schools sanctioned by the centre 50 have already been established. The Minister stressed on completing the mission of upgrading of a school after every three primary schools at an earliest.
