| Maharashtra offers reservation sop to JK | | | Jammu, September 19 : The state unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) headed by Thakur Randhir Singh has succeeded in persuading the Maharashtra government for including children of border refugees from Kathua to Kargil and children of police, army and para military forces posted in Jammu and Kashmir in the list of Kashmiri migrant youths for whom seats in various engineering colleges had been reserved. Claiming this Thakur Randhir Sigh told this reporter that in response to his memorandum submitted to Shrad Pawar President of NCP and Union Minister for Agriculture Dalip Walse Patil Minister ofr Technical Education Maharashtra announced at Dehradun, during the partys national convention that seats in various engineering colleges in Maharashta would also be reserved for border refugees from Kathua to Kargil and for the wards of men of police, army and para military forces posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Thakur Randhir Singh in his memorandum demanded that Jammu airport be upgraded to the level of an International level and air service links from Jammu to famous shrines of Budhists,Hindus in Himanchal Pradesh and Punjab be established in view of increasing number of pilgrim tourists to Mata Vaishno devi and Amaranth cave shrine. Mr Randhir Singh also sought Mr Sharad Pawars intervention in persuading the state government to provide security cover to provide security cover to senior leaders of Nationalist Congress paty in Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of cover being provided to leaders of Congress,PDP, BJP , Shiv Sena,Janta Party and Samajwadi Party. He requested Mr Pawar to take up the issue with the union Home Minister. The NCP leader also called for central government intervention in ensuring proper utilization of funds allotted by the Govt of India for various development projects in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Thakur informed Mr Pawar that on account of rampant corruption in the state the central funds continued to be misutilised with the result that the benefits of the development works will not reach common people. |
