National Youth Day” celebrated in MIER college of Education

Jammu, Jan 14- NSS Unit of MIER College of Education in collaboration with the Extension Activity Unit celebrated “National Youth Day” with great fervor and enthusiasm. The day was celebrated by organizing a debate on the topic “Impact of Media on Student Community”. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER and Principal MIER College of Education was the chief guest on this occasion. Twelve students participated in the competition, six for the motion and six against the motion. The panel of judges comprised of Dr. Surinder Kaur and Dr. D. R. Kapoor.
Dr. Renu Gupta during her address to the students lauded the role of media in spreading information and awareness among the masses on different issues and told the students about its importance in our daily life. She quoted some examples in order to highlight the impact of media on the student community which were relevant both at the national and global level. She added that it is because of the media that today students are aware about what is happening around them in all fields and spheres of life and it is the media alone which is responsible for the amount of knowledge explosion that is happening around us. She praised the extension activity unit of the college for organizing the debate competition on such an important issue and asked the students for their active participation in such programs, so that they can be front runners in the creation of a developed nation being the future nation builders.
The program started with the welcome address by N.S.S Program Officer, Poonam Soni. OSD MIER College of Education
Dr. Ira Bhan elaborated the life sketch and achievements of Swami Vivekananda and asked the students of the college to follow the path shown by such great thinkers and philosophers to become successful teachers.
Three Prizes in the form of small trophies were given to the students securing 1st, 2nd & 3rd position namely Prabha, Francis and Amit respectively. The program ended with vote of thanks by Komal Sharma, convener Extension Activity Unit MIER College of Education.
