| Rains in plains, snowfall in upper reaches of Valley | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: Incessant rains in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley threw normal life out of gear while higher reaches including the world famous Ski-resort of Gulmarg amassed further snow. Due to the snowfall in the higher altitudes, fresh cold wave sweep across the valley, forcing people to put extra clothing to safeguard them from the biting cold. Srinagar, the summer capital of the Jammu and Kashmir recorded fresh rainfall of 3.6 mm while Banihal recorded fresh rainfall of 9.6 mm, Qazigund 3.8 mm and Batote 8.8 mm of rains. Pahalgam recorded rainfall or snow equivalent to 17.1mm. According to PBI Pahalgam continued to experience snowfall for the second consecutive day. The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, also showed upward trend as a low of 3.5 degrees Celisus was recorded this morning. Jammu and Bhaderwah also received a fresh rainfall of 0.8mm and 6.1 mm, respectively, the officials in the MeT office said. While higher reaches in Kupwara received 6 to 8 inches of fresh snow, its plains including the main town received rainfall of 5.6 mm of rain. Gulmarg received a fresh snowfall of over one foot, the recordings taken at 8:30 am today, the officials added. A report from Leh said that there was a sea change in the temperatures as the temperature changed from minus 12.4 degrees Celisus previous night, to minus 5.0 degrees. Experts here maintain that the snowfall or rainfall during time of the year is essential for fruits and crops. They said that a heavy snowfall during this period is very essential for uninterrupted irrigation, hydro-electric power supply and drinking water during the summer months. Meanwhile, people were spotted wearing heavy clothing and carried with them umbrella's to avoid the rain and snow.
