Slathia stresses for effective implementation of employment schemes

JAMMU JANUARY 16- The Minister for Industries, Commerce, Labour and Employment, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia has stressed on creation of avenues for large scale employment generation in both public and private sectors, adding that there was a need to put in place and effective mechanism and strengthening the network of the Employment Department in the State. The Minister suggested for roping in National and Multinational Companies for holding recruitment rallies in the State to employ the abundantly available talent in the State. Mr. Slathia was reviewing the functioning of Labour and Employment Department here today.
The Minister maintained that un-employment problem was a global phenomenon and the J & K like other places was facing the problem acutely. "Government is determined to focus on this problem and find out ways and means to open avenues for jobs to the youth", he said adding that self-employment schemes have to be updated and made easy to attract the attention of plethora of skilled non-skilled and educated unemployed youth. He said awareness camps regarding the available self-employment generating schemes should be organized throughout the State and young men and women facilitated to get benefits available under these schemes in the State and Central Sector.
Referring to the rights of workers, the Minister asked the officers to implement the provisions of Labour Laws in letter and spirit. He directed the officers to provide all benefits available under the Labour Act to the workers expeditiously, adding that field staff should maintain close coordination with trade unions and industrial units to ensure better relations between workers and employers.
The Minister also stressed on provision of better Medicare facilities, introduction of new insurance schemes, accommodation shelters, education and other basic facilities to the workers and their families. He asked for strengthening the existing ESI Dispensaries and regular monitoring of the CP funds of the workers.
The Commissioner/Secretary Labour and Employment Mr Khalid Habib briefed the Minister about the functioning of the departments and measures taken for improvement. He said that till date 357 Self Help Groups of engineers and other technocrats involving 1922 youth have been formed and allotted works amounting to over Rs. 70 crore. Employment department has organized 56 recruitment rallies through Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and JAKLI and got absorbed over 2300 youth in these organizations. He said efforts were on to organize more such rallies in various parts of the State soon.
Labour Commissioner, Mr. B. D. Sharma, Director Employment and all district officers of both the departments were present in the meeting.
