JAMMU, May 18: In a significant development, Inderjeet Khajuria, President of All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) advocating for the creation of an Artificial Lake in River Tawi and the implementation of the Gandola Project from Mubarak Mandi to Bahu Fort. The Division Bench of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, comprising Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, presided over the case.
During the proceedings, Adv Meenakshi Salathia represented the PIL, urging the court to address the public concerns regarding the projects. In response, the Bench directed the concerned authorities to submit an updated status report on the completion of the Artificial Lake project, the progress of the Gandola Project, and the beautification initiatives in the respective areas.
The court further ordered that if the requested status report is not filed within two weeks, a penalty of Rs 10,000 will be imposed on the responsible officer or official. The penalty amount will be deducted from the salary of the defaulting officer.
This PIL holds significant implications for the development and beautification of the region, and its progress will be closely monitored by the court
