Early Times Report
DODA, May 19: In a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) in Doda District, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan, several decisions were made to enhance road safety in the district. The committee evaluated the existing infrastructure and logistics for ensuring safe vehicle movement on the roads.
Addressing concerns raised during the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in all school buses and matadors registered with the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) in Doda. This measure aims to enhance security and monitoring within these vehicles.
The DRSC also instructed relevant authorities to install glow signage, speed limit boards, and boards displaying emergency response team contact numbers on all roads. The committee further directed the concerned agencies to erect memorials at accident sites to serve as reminders for commuters. Additionally, efforts were to be made to remove any encroachments obstructing the roads.
Regarding the installation of CCTV cameras at specific locations identified by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and other agencies, the matter was reported to be under consideration by higher authorities for funding and necessary approvals.
The meeting discussed the regular joint checkpoint established at the 9th kilometer near Assar, with reports confirming its frequent operation. The Chairman urged officers to continue conducting checks at Assar Naka to prevent the entry of unfit and unregistered vehicles into the district unnoticed. Moreover, the agencies were instructed to install crash barriers at accident-prone spots and create parking bays at suitable distances.
Other topics discussed during the meeting included the implementation of previous decisions, disbursement of road safety funds, iRAD training, awareness campaigns, and various other related matters.
Among those in attendance were SSP Abdul Qayoom, SE PWD RP Singh, ARTO Rajesh Gupta, CMO, DIO, Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY, DTI Traffic, and other members of the DRSC.
