Long way to go for Azad’s party
5/19/2023 10:39:51 PM
The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) launched by former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is in news for wrong reasons yet again.
The party has asked its leaders and spokespersons not to speak to the media on any “sensitive or controversial issue.”
The gag was imposed following a controversial statement issued by a woman party spokesperson regarding the ST community.
She was asked to tender an apology on social media and a circular was issued that no leader should speak to the media.
When Azad launched his party his loyalists in the Congress Party left the grand old party of the country and joined him. But they deserted him after a short span of time and regretted their decision to join DPAP.
Azad’s party had appeared on the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir with a bang but it has not been able to create an impact that was expected of it.
The former J&K chief minister has been finding it hard to keep his flock together. His party leaders seem to be unhappy.
As the things are unfolding it seems that Azad’s party needs to accomplish a Herculean task to make its presence felt on the ground. At present it’s just one party among the others.
Whenever assembly elections are held in Jammu and Kashmir the DPAP will have to reach out to the people with something new as a common man has become politically aware about his rights.
Not only Azad’s party, no regional political party is on a strong wicket in J&K. The Congress Party has lost many of its bastions.
It has failed to act as a strong opposition. Another factor which goes against the Congress is that it’s without Ghulam Nabi Azad and it’s ridden by factionalism.
The DPAP is relying on Azad only as the veteran politicians, who had left the Congress to join him, are no more with him. Azad has to depend on young and new faces as there are not many experienced politicians left who can become the faces of his party.
The biggest task which Azad faces till assembly elections in J&K are held is to keep his party intact.
He has to ensure that his party leaders don’t annoy any section of the society through their utterances and try to build their footing.
