| Tarigami calls on PM | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 16: CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami today met Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh in Delhi. Tarigami discussed the post poll political situation of the State with the Prime Minister, besides India-Pakistan estrangement and its repercussions in the South Asia. While advocating the need of evolving a State and National level consensus vis-à-vis resolution of the vexed Kashmir issue, Tarigami said that the recently concluded successful electoral process has provided enough opportunity to settle the festering issue. The CPI (M) State Secretary observed that the high voter turnout should not be misconstrued as the end of political imbroglio in Kashmir, instead the opportunity be channelized to reach out the real issues, which are eating into vitals of socio-economic and political development in this trouble torn State. He added that given the alienation of the people in the valley, any sincere step at this stage should elicit good and positive response. While advocating the need for a result oriented and sustained dialogue process between the stake holders of the conflict, Tarigami stressed on to engage all shades of opinions in the State and at the National level in order to reach out some logical conclusion of the issue.
He further maintained that unfortunately some divisive forces are hell bent upon to divide the pluralistic State on the basis of regional and communal lines. "Unfortunately, these political opportunists, who play divisive cards to settle scores, are continuing with their nefarious designs. They don't have any regard and respect for a pluralistic society so their trends need to be discouraged," Tarigami conveyed to Prime Minister. He added that people have high hopes with the new dispensation, and it is imperative on both State and the Central government to redress the grievances of people on governance and political fronts.
