Jammu, Jan 16: Reaching out to the Kashmir Valley with an olive branch, the Omar Abdullah government has ordered release of 15 detenues lodged in different jails under the Public Safety Act.
All detenues whose detention has been revoked belonged to the Kashmir Valley. It could not be immediately learnt whether these detentions were quashed on recommendations of any screening committee.
An official spokesman said today that the Government has ordered revocation of detention of 15 PSA detenues with immediate effect.
The spokesman added: “This follows the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah's recent statement at a press conference in which he had said that the Government was actively considering the release of PSA detenues. On his orders, the Government today revoked detention of 15 PSA detenues”.
