DC reviews security arrangements, amenities for pilgrims | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, May 26: Deputy Commissioner of Samba, Abhishek Sharma, chaired a meeting today to assess the preparations for the upcoming annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 1, 2023. The meeting focused on reviewing security arrangements and addressing other essential aspects. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of establishing robust security measures and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to set up special checkpoints, conduct round-the-clock patrols, and install CCTV cameras at langar sites and other crucial locations. Sanitation, supply of LPG cylinders to langars, readiness of fire tenders, and contingency plans were extensively discussed during the meeting. The meeting highlighted the significance of providing adequate sanitation, power supply, drinking water, lodging, and other amenities for the yatris (pilgrims). The authorities were instructed to formulate comprehensive plans well in advance to ensure the availability of healthcare, water, and accommodation facilities. A Coordination Committee was formed to monitor the quality and prices of food items in the market. The meeting also addressed the identification of additional sites within the district to accommodate pilgrims in case of a Yatra halt, along with the provision of necessary facilities such as drinking water, electricity, toilets, and sanitation. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the police and security agencies to devise a foolproof security plan with adequate personnel deployment at designated langar and accommodation sites along the yatra route. Traffic management and parking plans specific to langars were also emphasized.
