Early Times Report JAMMU, May 26: In a Public Interest Litigation seeking rights for transgender individuals in Jammu & Kashmir, a Division Bench of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, comprising Chief Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, has directed the Union Territory of J&K and the Union Territory of Ladakh to submit an updated status report on the compliance of various court orders. The court referred to orders issued on September 5, 2018, March 28, 2019, July 19, 2019, February 27, 2020, and October 28, 2020, addressing issues such as census, education, employment, and healthcare for transgender individuals. During the hearing, the petitioners' senior counsel highlighted that the previous court orders pertaining to transgender rights had not been fully implemented. The Division Bench observed that while steps had been claimed to be taken by the authorities, the compliance report had not been submitted. The court directed the Union Territory of J&K and the Union Territory of Ladakh to provide the updated status report without fail, and also requested the petitioners to submit suggestions for further actions to be considered by the court. |
