Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 28: The Hindi play 'AAG' by Balwant Thakur was staged under Natrang's weekly theatre series 'Sunday Theatre' at Nagrota Park in Jammu. The play, directed by Neeraj Kant, sheds light on the drug menace that is destroying generations and hampering the progress of developing nations. It focuses on how the youth, who are the country's most energetic human resource, sometimes unknowingly fall into the trap of drug addiction.
The play takes an experimental approach by weaving multiple storylines into one theme, illustrating how the drug menace spreads like a fire, taking a toll on the country's important workforce. One sequence depicts a young boy struggling to find acceptance in college because he does not consume intoxicants. He feels isolated and frustrated, longing to prove his maturity. As a result, he succumbs to peer pressure and starts consuming various substances as a demonstration of his coming of age.
Another sequence portrays a rural community, particularly the male population, grappling with the menace of alcohol. The play attributes the village's miseries, including poverty, domestic violence, and illness, to the growing alcohol consumption. It showcases the daily routine of a villager who spends all his earnings on alcohol. After getting drunk, he loses his way home and, upon arrival, starts physically abusing his wife and children for not receiving him. When a local intervenes to protect the woman and children, he is accused of having ill intentions towards the drunkard's wife, leading to a chaotic fight. The drunken man, in his state of impaired judgment, further damages his household property. The play unfolds a series of incidents where individuals influenced by drugs, alcohol, and other intoxicants create havoc for themselves and others. Many lives are being destroyed by this drug menace, and the play urges everyone to unite and fight against it.
Several actors delivered outstanding performances and left a lasting impact with their acting skills. Notable actors in the play included Neeraj Kant, Brijesh Avtar Sharma, Mihir Gujral, Sumit Bandaral, Kananpreet Kaur, Abhimanyu Choudhary, Aadesh Dhar, and Sheryaar Salaria. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
