Widows, old-age pensioners facing inhuman treatment, admits BJP

Jammu, May 29: Amid brewing anger among the helpless widows and old-age pensioners due to the cumbersome process set up by the Social Welfare Department to release their pensions BJP on Monday admitted that these marginalized sections of the society are facing harassment.
Former Minister Priya Sethi after attending the grievance meeting at party headquarters emphasized simplifying the old-age and widow pension verification process.
She asked the authorities of the Social Welfare Department to streamline and simplify the verification procedure for pension cases of old age, widows, and other categories of people.
“Providing pension to widows, old-age people, and other categories is one of the basic and essential social security measures adopted for the sustenance and facilitation of the beneficiaries and as such it should be implemented on the ground without any convenience to the targeted section of the society”, she said.
The former minister further added that it is quite a harrowing experience, especially for the elders (Old age people) and the widows who have to run from pillar to post for getting their cases verified and it would not be wrong to state that for such people it is literally as also practically more than harassment.
The senior BJP leader said that the authorities dealing with the aforesaid pension cases should be humane in their approach in word and deed. She demanded that at least in case of old-age citizens above the age of sixty years the concerned authorities must visit personally their homes and verify their cases there on the spot.
Notably old-age pensioners, disabled, and widows are facing hardship in registering online for getting a meager Government financial aid since the Department of Social Welfare has moved the payment process online.
Pensioners have to update their Aadhar information, age certificates, and handicap certificates from authorized agencies to update their documents online.
