| PM asks Pak to act | | | Agencies
Mumbai, Jan 17: Keeping on the diplomatic pressure on Pakistan, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday demanded that it should make public the results of its investigation into the Mumbai terror attack without manipulation. “We have shared the evidence with Pakistan and other nations as well regarding the attack. We expect Pakistan to come up with the disclosures soon. These evidences will be made public in a few days. I urge the Pakistani authorities to come out with a full and complete disclosure of all the facts surrounding the case, without attempts at denial, diversion or obfuscation,” the Prime Minister said at the Economic Times award in at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai today. “If Pakistan is true in words, it must show it in action.” Pakistan had on Friday constituted a team to probe the Mumbai terror attack. Its Interior Minister, Rehman Malik also said today that there was enough evidence to probe the attacks. The Prime Minister went on to remind Islamabad that it should act against LeT and other terror groups “for its own interest” and that it should also ensure that attacks like the ones in Mumbai and Kabul embassy never happen again. Terming the Mumbai attacks on November 26 as "horrific", he said he could feel the anger of the city as he had lived in Mumbai for 3 years. Manmohan Singh assured the nation that the government will “spare no effort to ensure the city will not suffer in the future”. “I assure the people of Mumbai that we'll do our best to ensure such attacks do not happen again in the future,” he said. “The choice of Mumbai as the target of this barbaric attack was not without deeper intent. It was meant to be an attack on our very nationhood. Mumbai is the best-known symbol of free, pluralistic, dynamic and cosmopolitan India. That is precisely why the terrorists chose to attack it,” he said. Strongly condemning the Mumbai terror attacks that claimed more than 180 lives, he described it as “against the ideal of India and civil society”. “It is onslaught on civilization. No country can or will tolerate,” Singh added. The ten terrorists, who came through boat from Karachi, also attacked foreign nationals, the PM said, while exhorting the international community to “expedite action to bring the perpetrators to justice.” Admitting that there are chinks in India’s armour, he said: “At the end of the day this is a problem we have to tackle ourselves with our resources and determination.” The PM also praised, in glowing words, the bravery of Mumbai Police, NSG and the Marine commandoes, who laid down their lives fighting the attacks.
