Unprecedented response: 1.78 lakh farmers engage in orientations
6/1/2023 10:41:42 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 1: The Kisan Sampark Abhiyan continues to witness an overwhelming response from farmers, with a total of 1.78 lakh farmers participating in the first six rounds of orientations since its commencement on April 24. The recent sixth round, held from May 29 to May 31, saw a remarkable turnout of farmers. So far, the program has covered 1626 panchayats across the region. In a pioneering effort, the Agriculture Production Department is conducting an extensive farmer orientation exercise under the ambitious KISAN SAMPARK ABHIYAN. With a goal to reach every farmer in each Panchayat of the UT within the next four months, the program aims to drive holistic agriculture development. The exercise, part of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), will continue until August 31, 2023. Simultaneously, a baseline survey and skill gap study of farmers is underway during the abhiyan. Specially trained resource persons are capturing data from farmers, with approximately 1.67 lakh farmers' data already collected using IT tools. The survey data is being analyzed to facilitate future planning and interventions in the agriculture sector of the UT. This real-time data assessment will help policymakers address existing challenges and identify areas of strength. The Kisan Sampark abhiyan is being conducted in all districts of the UT during the first three days of the week. Each district follows a specific calendar provided by the government. Trained officers and officials from various departments, including Agriculture, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Horticulture, Sericulture, and Fisheries, serve as resource persons for the farmer orientations. To effectively communicate various initiatives and projects, short films/videos are being utilized during the sessions. A total of 49 films/videos showcasing HADP and other centrally supported programs are screened at different locations in J&K. Question and answer sessions follow each screening to address farmers' concerns.
