CM to inaugurate ‘DHANAK –II’ today
Academy organizes 2-day multilingual folk dance, music festival

Jammu, Jan 18- To celebrate the spirit of freedom and to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of 1st war of independence in 1857, State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi is organizing a two- day Multilingual Folk-Dances and Music Festival ‘DHANAK-II’ at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu from tomorrow.
This historic event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here on Monday.
Revealing this as a Press Conference here today, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary J&K Academy said that this is for the first time in the history of the State Academy that more than 200 prominent folk dancers and musicians representing all the three regions of the State would be participating in this extraordinary Cultural Festival. He said the programme has been divided into two parts. On day first Omar Abdullah Chief Minister, who is also the President of the Academy, will be the Chief Guest while Hawing Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism and Culture will preside. On second day of the event the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand will be the Chief Guest while Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for PHE. Irrigation and Flood Control will preside. Gaffer further stated that this cultural conversation between various ethno-linguistic groups of the State sharing same area of habitat, will defiantly prove useful to bind various communities in a single cord of adore and demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood the cultural togetherness.
He said that the programme is expected to be witnessed by the cross section of the society, Cabinet Ministers, high officials besides academician, theatre activists, University Teachers and the general public.
Speaking about the ‘event Zaffar further told that we are providing a joint platform to artists of different languages spoken in the state to showcase their cultural legacy in a big way’ and at the same time this programme will provide an opportunity of interaction between the artist community of Jammu and Kashmir. Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy and Dr. Javaid Rahi, Head Press and Publicity wing of the Academy also addressed the media about the arrangements being made by the Academy for holding this historic event.
The first phase of this programme ‘DHANAK-I’ was held at Leh in October 2008 and was inaugurated by the state Governor N N Vohra.
